Problems with The System
When these kids get out of jail or juvenile hall, traditional schools will not take them back and they’ll often end up in probation school. The so-called bad kids are all ending up in the same environments using methods that don’t work.
Public charters have been addressed as a solution, but are better for kids that are already on a path to success. They have higher standards than public schools and typically attract students with less problems in school. The school system kicks kids out because they’re not testing like they should, as schools do not want to keep failing on paper. For this reason, schools have hand selected kids. School dropout becomes even worse, and less than 40% of these troubled students actually end up graduating.
